Flow Rates
The bFed System is flexible! Patients and caregivers can use it as a gravity tube feeding system by letting the nutrition flow naturally or a bolus tube feeding system by squeezing the Bolee Bag to create the delivery speed needed. Below are gravity delivery speed times for a variety of undiluted commercial formulas using the bFed System and a straight bolus extension set:
- Compleat® Pediatric (250mL) 1 min 29 sec
- Jevity® 1.2 cal ( 237mL) 1 min 12 sec
- Kate Farms® Standard 1.0 cal (325mL) 59 sec
- Kate Farms® Pediatric Standard 1.2 cal (250mL) 39 sec
- Kate Farms® Peptide 1.5 cal (325mL) 1 min 39 sec
- Pediasure Harvest
(237mL) 3 min 10 sec
When using the bFed system, keep in mind that thickness and temperature of the nutrition being delivered affects the gravity delivery speed and the ease of squeezing the Bolee Bag.
Whole Food Nutrition
Functional Formularies (Liquid Hope & Nourish), Real Food Blends, Compleat Organic Blends and homemade blenderized nutrition also work well with the bFed System. Due to their variable thickness, squeezing (bolus tube feeding) is required to deliver the nutrition. It also helps to add additional liquid to the blend to make it flow easier.
Squeezing pressure will vary by individual so we did not time test the delivery of these products.
