Colton was born early at 30 weeks after being diagnosed with enutero mid-gut volvulus, a complex GI condition that required immediate surgery. At that time, he lost 2/3rds of his small bowel and now he lives with the chronic condition of Short Bowel Syndrome.  With a shortened GI tract, the transit time for food is so quick that he only receives about 1/3 of the nutrition he consumes.

This year, Colton received a feeding tube to make sure he had enough nutrition to thrive.  In turn, it took his family on the common tube feeding journey.  From pumps and commercial formula, to a bolus syringe with a blended diet it was messy and frustrating for everyone.

Colton is 7.5 years old now and although he understands that “mal-absorption” will be an issue his entire life, his optimism and determination to be in-charge of his feeding, is inspiring!

In order to make tube feeding an easier part of family life, Heather began a search for a tube feeding solution.  One that would help her son feel more confident and in control with less mess. Her search led her to U Deliver Medical and the Bolee EZ Fill System!

Heather prepares his diet every day and then gives him choices about his tube feeding.  Autonomy helps to lower his stress and anxiety around feeding.  With this system, Colton can fill his own syringes and connect them to his feeding tube.  He feels empowered to feed himself using his tube.

“Independence and choice are so important for Colton because so much has happened ‘to him,’ but with the Bolee Bag, for the first time he feels ‘in charge’ of his nutrition. This makes him feel proud and accomplished AND because it’s so easy to use, he no longer feels stressed!”
